On March 19, 2020, An announcement was released to close Australia’s border to both non-residents and non-citizens. The main aim of closing its border is to not let Corona affect anyone’s life anymore. However, This decision has been affecting international students as well.

The Lockdown was strict and worked at its best. Australia has regularly reported 75-80% approval ratings for keeping the door shut.

 Closed Australia’s border has barred most foreigners from entering the country and put caps on total arrivals to combat COVID. Mandatory 14-day quarantine and snap lockdowns have also been used to control the virus spread.

New South Wales Treasurer Dominic Perrottet has announced a raw plan to bring all the international students back in the state within the next six to eight weeks.

Nevertheless, these proposals have been accepted by the public. The deal was signed off by New South Wales Police and New South Wales Health on the deal to quarantine students in student accommodation, rather than in hotels.

The International students are supposed to bring students in Australia, and down the track they are supposed to come on commercial airlines.

This initiation is a great step for the NSW Economy. Throughout the middle of the year, the plan is to bring 250 students on top of the returned travelers coming back through the hotel quarantine system.

It is said that the total costs for the students are decided to be covered by the university sector. The proposals have been submitted to the Federal Government for final approval.

South Australia has officially become the first state to have its international students arrival plan supported by the Federal Department.

The reason behind these proposals is to get track of the economy maintained. Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said that the international students are the reason why the state is at the loss, with the sector worth $2 billion in 2019. The economic benefits of international students are clear to see in South Australia. In 2019, almost 20,000 jobs were created by international students.

The formation of the South Australia Health and Safety Plan is a priority for the State Government. No returning Australian will be affected by the plan. Students and institutions will also bear the costs of flying and quarantine.

The Minister for Trade and Industry Stephen Patterson has released the SA Students’ Plan. Minister for Health Karen Patterson said the plan was based on expert advice from SA Health and was designed to ensure the safety of seasonal workers.

The Flight Training Centre at Parafield has been approved to house up to 160 students for 14 days of quarantine and daily COVID-19 testing. One of the Commonwealth’s pre-conditions for international students is that the state border is open for domestic travel.

When is Australia’s Border opening?

The rumor has it, Australia’s border will open up till mid-2022.
